Birthday Party Ideas (Show 1266)

It sure was fun celebrating our dog, Polly's birthday! We're already planning for her next birthday party--and for ours, as well! Here are a few ideas we came up with...

Next time, we want to make cupcakes for everyone at the party. Each cupcake will have a candle on it. Not only will the birthday kid (or dog) get to make a wish and blow out the candles, but we'll go around the table, and each person at the party will make a special wish for the birthday kid/dog and then blow out the candle on his or her own individual cupcake. We figure, the more wishes, the merrier!

Then we can play a fun drawing game. Here are the rules: Everyone at the party stands in a line. The person at the front of the line has her back to the next person, who has his back to the next person, and so on. Everyone has a piece of paper taped to his or her back, and a marker in hand. (Make sure the markers won't bleed through onto anyone's clothes.) The last person in line draws a simple picture on the paper on the back of the person in front of her. That person tries to sense what is being drawn on his back, and then tries to draw that same picture on the back of the person in front of him--and so on, until the person at the front of the line gets a turn. Since there's nobody in front of her, she will draw the picture on an easel or a pad of paper. When she's done, it's time to compare the very first picture (drawn by the person at the back of the line) with the last picture (drawn by the person at the front of the line). Prepare to laugh because it's quite likely that the two pictures won't look anything like each other! All of the pictures can then be placed in order so everyone can see how the picture changed down the line. It's a lot like the game, "telephone!" which is also fun to play at birthday parties when you're sitting around the table eating cake.

And finally, everyone at the party will receive a small flower pot (or a plastic or paper cup with a few tiny holes poked in the bottom), potting soil, and seed(s). It could be grass seed, a flower seed, or whatever. Each person will plant his or her seed(s) in the soil and take the pot or cup home as a party favor to tend to the seed. If we use grass seed, everyone can draw a face on the pot or cup, and when the grass sprouts, it'll look like hair! What do you think of these ideas? We can't wait to try them out at our next birthday party!
